It’s a challenging time to be a young person. New research carried out by The Mix shows that 72% of 16 to 24 year olds feel that there are constant demands on their time. This week The Prince’s Trust published their findings suggesting that young people have never been unhappier.

Young people are engaged with wider society and eager to make their voices heard on issues which matter to them. However, this co-exists within a world saturated in social media, and our research revealed it can be difficult to find the space to process information and take action. In some cases social media actually has a negative effect, more than creating positive connectivity, and can lead to depressive symptoms. Young people have told us that the relentless pressure to be perfect can make it even harder to switch off, both online and in real life.

In response to this worrying trend, The Mix is launching a new campaign: #MyTime.

#MyTime is about reclaiming time as your own. Time to think, then act. Time to simply breathe. Time to de-stress. Time to find out more. Time to just be.

Zoe Bailie, Director of Brand at The Mix, says “Young people are under a lot of pressure: from performing well at school or university and securing their first job, to leading a successful personal life. All of this under the ever-watching eye of social media, which can bring its own stresses and pressure. #MyTime is an exciting campaign that will help empower young people to take some time and some space to make the best choices for themselves.”

Leading with a powerful video co-created with young people, The Mix will be releasing new support content and real-life stories during this 3-month campaign to help young people understand the value in taking time for themselves. Whether it be to pursue their passions, relax and reconnect, or seek out new information to make positive choices, we want young people to reap the rewards of investing in themselves.
