What is a Support Chat Moderator?

As a Support Chat Moderator, you’ll oversee live chat sessions on The Mix, offering empathy, information and support to our online community of under 25s.

What will training look like?

We will run four interactive online training sessions via Google Meet. It is mandatory for shortlisted applicants to attend all these sessions, to move forward as a volunteer.

  • We can only offer factual references after 6 months of volunteering (26 shifts).
  • If you are less than 6 months off your 26th birthday, we will not be able to accept your application.

- Two hours a week (8 – 9:30pm on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays)

- No experience necessary

- Minimum commitment of six months

- Oversee and contribute to live chat sessions on The Mix

- Encourage and facilitate peer support

- Offer empathy, information and support to chat members as and when needed

- Deal with inappropriate members and diffuse any conflict in the room

- Maintain contact with your volunteer manager for ongoing support

- To be 18-25. If you are less than 6 months off your 26th birthday, we will not be able to accept your application

- To be based in the UK

- You are happy to undertake a DBS check

- To be non-judgemental, diplomatic and have a good sense of humour

- Basic computer skills (particularly typing) and the ability to access the internet on a regular basis

- A strong interest in online communication

- A good grasp of the English language

- Improved communication skills

- Relevant experience for many careers

- Something to put on your CV –e.g. commitment and social responsibility

- Get an insight in to key issues affecting young people e.g. mental health

- After six months with us we’ll happily provide you with a reference
