FAQs

PeerChat is a free, one-to-one online text-based support service for young people aged 16–25 in the UK.

You’ll be booked in with a trained PeerChat Supporter - someone who understands how tough life can feel and is there to listen without judgement. It’s not therapy or counselling, just a supportive conversation to help you talk things through and figure out your next steps.

Sessions last around 45 minutes and focus on whatever’s on your mind - big or small.

As sessions are limited, it is important that you cancel your appointment if you're unable to attend to ensure that another young person is able to take your space.

The Mix supports under 25's across the UK, therefore our service may not be suitable if you:

- Are 26 years old or older

- If you're younger than 16

- Live outside the UK

- Need immediate, emergency support

- If you've already used the PeerChat service within the last 12 months

PeerChat is a space to talk through whatever’s on your mind, including:

Feeling stressed, anxious or low

Feeling lonely or disconnected

Relationship or friendship issues

Identity and self-esteem

Uni, work or life pressure

Feelings that are hard to explain or put into words

While we appreciate you may be seeking support for multiple topics, to get the most from your session please choose one priority theme to dedicate your 45 minute PeerChat to.

Yes - PeerChat is designed to be a safe and confidential space where you can talk openly.

The only exception is if there are serious concerns about your immediate safety, or someone else’s. In those situations, The Mix may need to share information with services like emergency support to help keep people safe — and they’ll explain this to you if it happens.

PeerChat is a one-to-one text-based chat - there’s no video or voice involved.

You don’t need a GP referral or diagnosis to use PeerChat — you can simply book a session yourself. If you’re curious about peer support but not sure what to expect, you’ll find helpful guides on our site to walk you through how it works.

PeerChat is a space for emotional support and understanding, but it is not counselling, therapy, or crisis intervention.

If you are currently receiving counselling or are on a waiting list for counselling, you can still use PeerChat alongside this.

If you feel at risk of harm or need urgent help, please contact the emergency services (999) or go to your nearest A&E.
