Issues impacting young people during lockdown: July-September, 2020

Published on August 2021

The Mix has launched a quarterly report which shows the issues impacting young people each quarter, using our helpline data. This second report focuses on June, July and September (Q3) of 2020, revealing the issues that young people were contacting our helpline about most during the first summer of the pandemic, as well as the connection between different issues. In order to uncover unseasonal trends, the data for this period is compared to the data for the same period in the previous year.

Mental health and wellbeing, depression or low mood and anxiety were by far the most common topics young people discussed on the helpline during the third quarter (Q3) of 2020, with each being mentioned by around a quarter of young people. Feelings and emotions; family; relationships and thoughts of suicide, respectively, were the next most commonly discussed topics.
