Your Hand In Mine

I think each song on this playlist is so individual and beautiful in its own way.

Hi, I am moving all the posts from the The Mix’s sister website Madly In Love to Your Voices.

'Open' by Rhye - "I'm a fool for the sound in your sighs". I find this song so sensual yet emotional because Mike Milosh's vocals are divine; it's full of love and a great opening to a day (or night) with a loved one.

'I Wanna Be Yours' by Arctic Monkeys - "I wanna be your vacuum cleaner, breathing in your dust". Even though this song is not completely Alex Turner's (it's based on a poem by John Cooper Clarke), the way he sings can make even sentences like "I wanna be your Ford Cortina, I will never rust" sound romantic and completely captivating.

'Only Love by Ben Howard' - "Darling you're with me, always around me". Ben Howard just has a beautiful way with his guitar, and a unique voice that makes me think of youth, adoration, spontaneity and yearning. I particularly adore the stronger beat of the guitar and the end line.

'Flightless Bird, American Mouth' by Iron & Wine - "Have I found you, flightless bird?" I am yet to understand the meaning behind these words but I'm in love with the song. It's not only a perfect waltz beat but the way the strange lyrics and lulling melody combine makes for a very happy and romantic feel.

'Your Hand In Mine' by Explosions In The Sky. I named the playlist after this song because even without lyrics, it conveys contentment, comfort, joy, ecstasy, peacefulness, intoxication, grace and most of all love, all in one go. The build-up is fantastic as well, it makes me picture a velvety black sky with shooting stars of all colours.

'Song For You' by Broken Fences - "How is it that you've caught me so completely when I've had this wall built around me?" The soothing rhythm of guitar and lovely harmony of voices makes this little indie song one that always relaxes me. It has a lovely chorus of "always your eyes, always your words, always your voice", which is so simple but shows desire so sweetly.

'Love Love Love' by Of Monsters and Men - "Maybe I'm a crook for stealing your heart away". The lyrics of this song aren't full of cheesy lines about love ("you love love love when you know I can't love") but I love [love love] the idea that the subject of the song's love is irrevocable. Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir's voice is, without falter, exquisitely ethereal and full of emotion.

'I Will Follow You Into The Dark' by Death Cab For Cutie - "No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white, just our hands clasped so tight". Perhaps a bit of a melancholy end to this mix but I feel like it makes a perfect end to a playlist because it's all about how love never truly ends. The stripped back sound and acoustic guitars really show off Ben Gibbard's gorgeous voice, and his simple message is so powerful and loving.

I personally love all eight of these songs and could listen to them any time. Hopefully this playlist will bring together lovers, friends and family to enjoy life and love this year.
